Richard Briggs
Interim CEO, HBREDA

Richard is contracted as the interim Chief Executive of the Hawke’s Bay Regional Economic Development Agency (HBREDA) until the end of April 2026. In this role, he will oversee the agency’s ongoing operations and projects, while also contributing to an organisational refresh and the transition towards a post-cyclone recovery, single regional delivery entity for Te Mātau a Māui, Hawke’s Bay.

Originally from Hawke’s Bay, Richard completed his schooling in Napier before moving to Palmerston North to study Business at Massey University. He brings significant strengths and relevant experience to HBREDA at a critical time. With a strong background in both local government and the private sector in New Zealand and off shore, Richard previously served as Chief Executive of Hamilton City Council for seven years. He has a proven track record in delivering results, leading transformation, and fostering collaboration with government, Māori, business, and community groups.
